Genetically engineered grapes or high-potency supplements

Author: admin  //  Category: Health

Chinese researchers have produced genetically engineered grapes that make six times the quantity of resveratrol found in normal grapes, according to the information of New Scientist. The consumption of resveratrol, a substance found in grape crust, has been linked by researchers to host strong results, including reduced rates of heart infection, tumor, diabetes and, most recently, the ageing process itself. Consumption of red wine is often quoted as a means to reap the compensation of resveratrol.

The New Scientist informs about the plans that are in progress to make and sell red wine from these grapes. Yet researchers say that to capitalize the profits of resveratrol through red wine consumption, human beings have to drink between 750 and 1,000 glasses of wine per day, according to The New York Times. Since the negative effects of that much alcohol consumption would so far outshine the potential benefits, Biotivia, a leading bioceutical company, produces Bioforte and Transaxle, the best-selling resveratrol supplements ever.

Bioforte and Transaxle, supplements produced under U.S. Food and Drug Administration Good Manufacturing Processes, are the highest-potency resveratrol supplements available, according to Biotivia documentation. Bioforte is a 250-milligram resveratrol supplement, while Transaxle contains 500 milligrams of the chemical. Resveratrol has been prevalent in the news in recent years. CNN reported a study by researchers at the institution of higher education in North Carolina, who found resveratrol, might fight malignancy and help lower instances of heart ailments.

Resveratrol can help you to lead a long and healthy life so says Dr. Oz.
Red wine alone does not supply enough resveratrol to achieve the
full range of benefits. You need to take high potency resveratrol
supplements to achieve the results documented in scientific studies.
Resveratrol Supplements can also help you control your weight naturally
by increasing energy, reducing cravings, and limiting your appetite.
According to Wikipedia, Consumer Lab, an independent dietary
supplement and over the counter products evaluation organization,
published a report on 13 November 2007 on the popular resveratrol
supplements. The organization reported that there exists a wide range
in quality, dose, and price among the 13 resveratrol products
evaluated. The actual amount of resveratrol contained in the
different brands range from 2.2mg for Revatrol, which claimed to have
400mg of “Red Wine Grape Complex”, to 500mg for Biotivia.com Transmax,
which is consistent with the amount claimed on the product’s label.
Prices per 100mg of resveratrol ranged from less than $.30 for
products made by Biotivia.com, jarrow, and country life, to a high of
    $45.27 for the Revatrol brand.

Since the Dr. Sinclair study was published in Nature a flood of somewhat dubious companies have sprung up selling resveratrol. Most of the dodgy ones have some variation of resveratrol in their name and sell only one or two products. One even makes his capsules in a rented house in Florida. Consumer Lab, an independent testing authority, evaluated the major brands and found many lacking in content and quality. The ones that passed their evaluation were Biotivia, Transmax and Bioforte. A product by Life Extension Co. failed badly with only 26% of the claimed resveratrol. Another brand, Revatrol, had virtually no trans-resveratrol in its supplement. The problem with some of the ones that did pass is that they contain less than 250mg of actual resveratrol which does not conform to the studies and is very expensive on a relative mg basis. The ConsumerLab test results are available on their web site.
